I thought I was the only one. But mine is more brutal. I fought, laughed, bought for him(gay friend btw). To show my friendship and appreciation because of his contribution for my family business. But the day he left my management, not once he remembered me to thank me for what I did for him. Never once he remembered me, so much for the sacrifices just to suit his ego.

Two things can be true at the same time. You can be completely genuine and artless in giving to others, and be justified in expecting similar effort and thought from others - few relationships survive a lack of reciprocity. You just need to accept that not everyone shows up the same way, and sometimes the relationship you think you have with someone is not the one of you actually do and is maybe better consigned to history or moved to acquaintance level.

I learned the hard way that people will not do for you what you do for them. They will not be considerate. People have their own agenda and ideas and you can't control that. The only thing you can do is what you feel is right. You will get disappointed repeatedly in life if you expect others to reciprocate the way you do things. You just gotta do you.
