these paragraphs give us the writer's point of view. We haven't learned the other person's view point. Of course there was a reason or reasons why they left. Maybe they wanted their partner to feel their absence and do self reflect. Maybe they too thought their return brought changes to the relation. Maybe their partner is so egoistic & never addressed their mistakes. Those are scenarios but sure both have wronged each other & were accountable. People don't have the right to change each other's personalities. This is selfish.
