There is always a moment when you realize the rain has stopped. Not when the last drop falls. A little later. You are still sitting by the window, listening to the familiar sound, and then suddenly you notice that it's gone. The silence feels almost strange. You look outside. The streets are wet. The lights of the city are reflected in every puddle. People are coming out again, opening umbrellas, starting their cars, continuing wherever they were going. As if nothing happened. I think life is sometimes like that. You can spend weeks feeling like you're stuck inside a storm. Everything feels heavier than it should. Small things annoy you. Old memories come back. You don't really want to talk to anyone. You sleep, wake up, repeat. And because you've been feeling that way for so long, you start believing that this is simply who you are now. That maybe you've changed permanently. That maybe the person who used to get excited about little things isn't coming back. But feelings are strange. They convince you that the present is permanent. They make a bad week feel like a bad life. A lonely night feel like a lonely future. And then, without asking your permission, something changes. Maybe you wake up one morning and the air feels different. Maybe you hear a song you haven't heard in years. Maybe someone sends you a message you weren't expecting. Maybe you walk outside and realize you've been smiling for no particular reason. Nothing dramatic. Nothing worthy of a movie. Just a tiny moment when you realize: Oh. I'm okay today. And sometimes that's how healing happens. Not with a huge realization. Not with everything suddenly making sense. Just little pieces of yourself quietly returning. You laugh a little more. You start looking forward to things again. You stop checking the clock so often. You find yourself enjoying something without immediately thinking about what comes next. You don't even notice when the storm ends. That's probably the beautiful part. We always imagine happiness as something loud. Something obvious. But sometimes happiness is incredibly quiet. It's walking home after the rain. It's cold air against your face. It's the smell of wet streets. It's realizing you haven't thought about the thing that used to hurt you all day. It's looking at the sky and feeling nothing except peace. And maybe you'll have another storm someday. Of course you will. Life doesn't promise clear skies forever. But now you know something you didn't know before: the rain stops. Even when you can't imagine it. Even when the clouds have been there for so long that you've forgotten what the sky looked like. One day, you'll notice the silence. You'll look outside. And the world will still be wet from everything you've been through. But there will be light reflecting in the puddles. And you'll realize you made it through. You don't have to believe that the storm will end. Sometimes you just have to stay long enough to see that it does.
