@emis.asia: A scab is not a sign that healing is going well. To close a wound, new skin cells migrate across the surface from the edges inward, and they need moisture to move. A dry scab is a barrier they cannot cross, so they tunnel underneath through living tissue instead. That is a longer, slower route. In Winter's classic 1962 experiment, wounds kept moist under a thin film had about twice as much new skin by day three. Covering a wound also does not trap infection the way people expect. A review of more than 4,000 wounds found infection in 2.6 percent under occlusive dressings, against 7.1 percent under conventional ones. But wet is not the goal either. Too much fluid macerates the skin around the wound, turning it white and soft so that it breaks down. Moist, not wet. A dressing that holds moisture in and absorbs the excess. And check the skin around the wound, not just the wound. Spreading redness, rising pain or fever needs review by a clinician.
