This is the grey market. Distribution companies will have excess / old stock and chemist warehouse will purchase them at a discount and sell them cheaper. Mecca, Byredo, Korres etc likely do not know this is happening. It is not illegal but can be slightly dodgy hence why it is called the grey market

I always thought - at least here in New Zealand - it’s because Chemist Warehouse buys the stale/discontinued product that the supplier will otherwise dump, in bulk for extra cheap in the hope people buy it thinking it’s fresh.

It’s grey market! They’re not an authorised distribution channel and purchase excess stock from third parties, so there’s no real guarantee that you’re not getting a dodgy batch that’s expired, has been improperly stored or is damaged somehow. That’s why sometimes you can find scents that brands don’t even make anymore! I’d definitely be checking CW’s returns policy though, because if something is wrong I can’t really see them being super accomodating!

I’ve smelt and compared so many - especially byredo. You can tell they’re from the grey market because the fragrances literally smell like they have a higher alcohol content. This means they could be old stock/sitting in warehouses before being sold to chemist warehouse. Products definately aren’t up to scratch.

Just a small fyi , the scent LEFKA (not sold in Mecca) from Korres is ELITE !! It’s like a fresh linen scent. When I go home to dubai I go to chemist warehouse and go hammmm on the perfumes (they sell everythingg because I’m assuming exclusivity only exists in Australia) (I’m talking Hermes’ perfumes for $70 etc etc)

I’ve heard about the “grey market” that chemist warehouse operates in and that’s how these brands pop up without direct authorization from the brands themselves

My hubby got me a byredo perfume from chemist warehouse last year. It’s not stale or old, (grey market). It’s perfection. They’ve stocked byredo, Creed and a lot of others for a couple of years now. And way cheaper
