This isn’t me telling Black women what they should or shouldn’t do with their hair. Wear wigs. Switch it up. Try different styles. Do whatever makes you feel good. My point is that somewhere along the way, wearing hair textures that look nothing like our own became so normal that simply saying “I actually love seeing Black women with their natural hair” can somehow become controversial 😂 And I think it’s worth talking about, especially when you think about the next generation of Black girls growing up and what we teach them is beautiful. Our natural hair shouldn’t feel like the alternative. It should be something we’re proud of first. But there’s also a business side to this that people shouldn’t ignore. Black women spend serious money on wigs, extensions and hair products every single year, and a huge amount of that money leaves our communities and ends up in other countries that manufacture and export the products we consume. That’s why I find the whole conversation interesting. It’s not just about beauty standards. It’s also about who is actually making money from those standards. And yes, I know women don’t choose their hairstyles based on what men prefer 😂 but you might be surprised how many Black men genuinely love seeing Black women with their natural hair. I’m actually curious ladies, what’s the main reason you wear wigs? Protection? Convenience? Switching up your look? Insecurity? Something else? No judgment. I genuinely want to know. #africa #businessmindset #africanhairstyles #blackwomen #africandiaspora
