Its funny that I'm Hispanic yet know so much about African Cultures. The tradition you are referring to is a playful cultural practice called "Da'chahili" (or Datahili), native to the Dagomba (Dagbamba) people of Northern Ghana. During a wedding celebration, a female cousin or female relative of the groom will suddenly step onto the dance floor, interrupt the groom's dance with his new bride, and take possession of the groom by dancing directly in front of or with him. To outsiders or those unfamiliar with the culture, this can look like a serious confrontation or a marital dispute, but it is actually a lighthearted, deeply respected custom.
