I mean don’t steal peoples cards and your machine wont get damaged? Why is this a feature? Imagine going to 7-11 and the cashier says “i think this is a weird card” then takes scissors and cuts it in half. Why is a multi billion dollar companies MACHINE allowed to do something a avg Cashier could not do…..

If your card has never been eaten by a Thai atm you don’t know the frustration! They won’t give it back til 5-10 BUSINESS days! They will call you to the bank to verify identity, so you’re without money the entire time! Cash is king in Thailand, lucky I had a 2nd bank account but it was very frustrating, the ATM eats your card & tells you “we believe there’s fraud on your card, call your bank” like BRO that’s up to my bank to send me a text & confirm, not you holding my card hostage!

the good way is to call bank, perhaps they will ask you to fill a complaint to police station, but card will be available in bank the day after.

happened to me, asked a thai friend to help, took 3 days from them to get a technician to get it. so pissed but lucky to get it back... same yellow bank too

lost mine in Bali the first day and I was alone, supposed to pay the rest of the rent. And it was night. the card is still there tho. I would have done 100% the same if I was able. 😅

Machines malfunction. It’s a risk you take when you use an ATM. Some of them will spit your card out if you wait a few mins. There’s also the option of calling the bank when they open. Western union money to yourself if you really need cash & don’t have a backup card
