@electri_cal: What Happens When 230V Supply Connects 208V Windings? What happens when a 208V three-phase motor is connected to a 230V supply in star configuration? In a star-connected motor, each winding receives the line voltage divided by 3. A 208V supply applies approximately 120V to each winding, while 230V applies nearly 133V. This higher voltage-to-frequency ratio increases magnetic flux and may drive the motor core toward saturation, causing magnetizing current, winding temperature and insulation stress to rise sharply. How voltage divides across windings in star connection V Why 208V line voltage produces 120V per winding V Why 230V produces approximately 133V per winding / How excessive voltage increases magnetic flux V Why core saturation causes current and heat to rise How prolonged overvoltage can damage motor insulation Disclaimer: This video is for educational purposes only. A 208V-rated motor will not necessarily burn immediately at 230V; the result depends on its nameplate ratings, frequency, load, service factor, voltage balance, operating time and manufacturer specifications. Always follow the motor connection diagram and consult a qualified electrician. #electrical #learn #foryou #motor

this video is wrong. the motor will run cooler at 240 volts than at 208 volts. less amps for the same load.

testing motors rated for 208v I used a step down transformer as I only had 230v available. No issues. Motors were only rated for 208v. Newer motors run on 208 and 230v. Check plate on motor.

This video is quite correct, although 208volts is strange and not very common. Simply, exceed the nameplate voltage by 10% with no added protection and this will happen.

all are builds are 480v 3 ph.and 208v 3ph. some of our motors data plates are 3 ph. 208,230 or 460v on one motor.
