We live in a world so desensitized it’s become socially acceptable to invade a woman’s body and get off by writing an essay. I’m baffled to say the least… Most women you know have experienced SA, and our bodies remember, whether we were fully conscious or not. There is so much guilt and shame around allowing yourself to be vulnerable again. To open up. To feel safe in your own body. Finding a way to trust yourself again takes so much strength. Learning to feel at home in your body again can almost feel like grieving your own death. And maybe that sounds dramatic to someone who has never carried that kind of shame but it couldn’t be more real for those who have. For me, movement became apart of that healing. When I’m in my pilates practice shaking, moving through the discomfort, working through the tension my body has held onto for years, I’m reminded that this body is still mine and it’s become a deeply spiritual process. Not because pilates healed my trauma, but because it taught me to listen to my body instead of fear it. To feel instead of disconnect. To take up space instead of shrink myself. And every time I move, I remind myself that I am here. I am safe. This body is mine. I feel so deeply for anyone who has experienced SA and I hope you know that what happened to you does not get to define your relationship with your body forever. Little by little you get to find your way back to yourself, whether that be through movement, talking with loved ones, writing it out, or whatever feels most safe for you. #movementishealing #pilatesisforeverybody #pilatesathome #pilatesinstructor
