Atticus was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital before being transferred to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, where he died just before midnight on 23 July 2022. Bartlett, formerly a postman, insisted he had not harmed his son and refused to admit he was drunk. His legal team suggested Evelyn Ballentyne could have caused the fatal injuries. She was initially arrested alongside Bartlett but was never charged and appeared as a prosecution witness during the trial. Medical experts told the court Atticus had sustained severe internal injuries to his brain and spinal cord, leaving the child with injuries “that were consistent with a car crash, or a fall from a height.” After the hearing, Detective Superintendent Lorett Spierenburg said: “This is a devastating case in which a very young baby has lost his life as the direct result of a violent and cruel act. “The loss of Atticus has had a profound effect on all those who loved him.” Bartlett is expected to be given life in prison when he is sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on 24 July. #5news #bodycam #baby
