“Must protect the baby” 👀 I can’t believe how Trouble switches from a relaxed herd member… to a velcro horse when I have the baby 😂 Oh my goodness the two of them! What I love is how calm and confident he is. I spend a lot of time building confidence within my horses, so when they notice something and lift their heads, they either blow a nostril to say, “hey, does this need more attention? What do you think?” Or they simply go back to grazing. Unlike some of us, they don’t spend the next 2 hours imaging every possible predator that could emerge 👀😂 If only we could switch off overthinking. One of our greatest gifts is imagination. The downside can be, when something happens, we don’t just respond to what ‘it’ is, but we think about what it ‘could’ be… and get pulled into feelings of fear, anger, defensiveness or urgency. Reactivity is the desire for certainty. As we learn to be more confident in ourselves, we can observe what’s happening without immediately trying to control it. We learn to tolerate uncertainty, gather information and then respond, instead of just reacting. It’s the same with our horses. When we empower our horses to be more confident within themselves, the threshold where stress is triggered is lowered. They feel less compelled to react, as they gather information first. The world doesn’t become less certain. A confident horse has just learnt: uncertainty is survivable ✨ I hope you enjoy the little squeaks from baby Lucas trying to touch his favourite horse.
