You make great claims about them, saying that even disrespecting them would be a grave matter and that we could never imagine speaking against them. But ask yourselves: Is your love for Abu Bakr (RA) greater than your love for the Prophet ﷺ? Think about that moment when Abu Bakr (RA) came to the pulpit and said: “Whoever worshipped Muhammad should know that Muhammad has passed away. And whoever worships Allah should know that Allah is Ever-Living and Ever-Sustaining. He neither perishes nor dies. So worship Him.” You cannot even say something similar about your own spiritual leader. Your faith is incomplete. You are merely flattering people. You are trapped in worldly interests and personal benefits. You do not have the courage to speak. But Abu Bakr (RA) knew that by saying these words about the Prophet ﷺ, the Prophet would be pleased with him. He understood his responsibility as the Prophet’s closest companion and representative. The Prophet ﷺ had instructed Abu Bakr (RA) to lead the prayer during his illness. Why did he not instruct Umar (RA) instead? There is wisdom in this as well. Some people say that the Prophet ﷺ did not possess knowledge of the unseen or of future events. Yet I am presenting these points through narrations: why did the Prophet ﷺ specifically instruct Abu Bakr (RA) to lead the prayer?
