i still catch myself grieving a future that never got the chance to exist. the late night conversations we never had, the random dates we kept saying we'd go on, the birthdays we were supposed to spend together, the little arguments we would've laughed about an hour later. i mourn memories that were never even made. i had already made room for you in tomorrows that never arrived. i memorized a version of us that only ever lived inside my head. sometimes i wonder if you ever think about it too. if you ever stop for a second and realize how close we were to becoming something we both once believed in. how one different choice, one more conversation, one less misunderstanding could've changed everything. but i guess "we could've been" will always hurt more than "we never tried." because we almost did. and somehow, "almost" became the thing i'll spend the longest trying to forget.
