My wife went on a kick with scratch off tickets. Every time she won $300 one of our older animals died or got sick and had to be put down. Conviently the $300 covered the vet and cremation expenses. Every time.

We had the same issue with Lake Tahoe to the point where we paid for my uncle tango somewhere else when my grandmother went into hospice. She passed away 3 years later when I went camping near but not at Lake Tahoe. No one goes to Tahoe anymore.

We have had the person bringing the rolls for a holiday dinner end up in the hospital a few years in a row. We no longer ask guests to get rolls we get them ourselves.
