@becki_111: Bethany is 8 and has NEVER had her hair cut 💙 Every time we walk Max, we pass the same hairdresser — and every single time I stop, point it out and talk to Bethany about going in one day for her first haircut. With Bethany, preparation takes lots and LOTS of repetition. She needs time for things to become familiar, so there’s absolutely no rush. We’ll keep walking past, keep talking about it and eventually take that next step when she’s ready. She normally says YES when we have this conversation… apparently today she had VERY different ideas 😂💙 We’ll get there in Bethany’s own time. #AutismParenting #Autism #SENParenting #AutisticChild #AutismFamily
im probably teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, but maybe see if theres anything hairdressers that do home visits, might be less stressful for everyone until she gets used to it. Hope your surviving the last week 🫶

Also if you’re waiting for her to say yes it’s not going to happen, I don’t think she understands until you physically show her!

Asking her gives her the opportunity to say no. There’s other ways to word it where you don’t sound demanding

Do u not use PECS? Just someone who works with kids with Autism and learning disabilities haircut was one thing we did ones calling it a hair shop she’s taken you’re last word and linked it to shopping, personally I would just call it a haircut.

My daughter was actually so excited to do it. It took 45 minutes of screaming and crying and trying to run out of the seat for TWO PEOPLE to brush her hair!!!! The actual cut part was okay but she sees a brush and just goes ballistic it’s horrible 😭😭😭😭😭😭

My lad would never get his hair cut up until he was a teenager we found putting a mirror in his hands so he can watch and move the mirror himself we managed to get him to sit still long enough

My daugher is 8 and non verbal. I have to cut her hair myself now. slowly in the bathroom. She was absolutely sobbing and they had to try and restrain her the last time I took her to the hairdressers. That was a SEN one too. Once the brushing is done and her hers wet shes tolerating it from me without crying x

My 3 autistic sons all have waist length hair. None of them can handle haircuts no matter what we try. I’ve even considered training to be a hairdresser just to get it done 😅

Your doing great, I am a barber I cut my lads hair and he hates it unless his dads had 1 b4 then he tolerate it better. Has she seen you get a haircut or show her the steps of a hair cut? X
