I just remembered how my mom noted that our extra sick bunny that always has digestion issues had healthier poops when she went on vacation and I was the one taking care of all buns. Probably because I have way easier time saying no to it when it's asking for treats

Honestly, a rabbit is a rabbit. You can’t just draw a line and say one is a pet and the other is food. A breed of rabbit isn’t meat, they are all loving animals meant to be pets. Anyone who actually does this to them is the definition of cruel.

Where’s the line when it comes to health and safety? For example, wire bottom cages are great for sanitation, but they often cause sores on rabbit hocks, which expose the animal to infection. In my personal experience, having to clean more often is worth reducing the risk of infected sores, but I know that other people with their experience prefer the wire bottoms. Some of people’s criticism is just hating that you don’t have a whole room dedicated to a single bun, but some are genuine ethical conundrums.

The best example I can think of personally is my family’s dogs. My mum has two fluffy fancy dogs who are bathed regularly and fed a combination of biscuits,meat and treats aswell as get to sleep in the house. My dad had cattle and guard dogs who’s bath is the dam on our farm and get fed biscuits and whatever pest my dad shot. Both are treated differently but still have efforts put into their health

My thing is why can’t it be both. I feel like the pet breeders should be breeding to production standards. Maybe they should prioritize temperament a bit more or maybe breed for certain specific things and show rabbits but well, we should be offering these animals, the best care we can. Basically there shouldn’t be a difference between pet and production standards. The best care should always be offered, regardless of who is taking care of the animal.
