In my country, at least for the non high end restaurants, we do not get asked that by the waiters. It's better I think because I would hate the hypocrisy and ingenuity of it. Usually if we have an issue here, we'll just call the waiter and usually the issue gets resolved.

In Hong Kong and the guangzhou area they’ll throw the food onto your table, give you a dirty look and ask what you’re staring at before muttering curses at you.

I am working for German company and stayed in munich for 7 years. The Germans definitely only saying is everything ok by protocol. I once gave a feedback and a black face appeared 😂

even if it is 0.5L for a large, it isnt nice/smart to use an overly large 1L glass for the drink. customers wld have the feeling that they are being cheated. even if the restaurant is "right" they lose a customer. this can easily be resolved by using a smaller glass to serve the drink in future and thanking the customer for their feedback and doing some kind of service recovery

They had small and large sizes, and your colleague ordered a large. But if it comes out half empty like that, of course I'd definitely ask them!!! 😱 Think about it, if the large size is only half full, it makes you wonder how little you'd even get in a small. 😱

I was in a Taiwanese steakhouse once, my steak was really raw. So I ask the waitress to take it back and cook a bit more. What I got, which totally wasn't prepared for, was a newly prepared steak.

if the menu specifically mentioned the volume of the drink as 0.5litres, then fair enough, they might not have the right cup size. . If they didn't mention the volume, then they should fill it to at least 80% of whatever cup size they used. . If they want to save money, they could simply fill it up with ice to make it full.
