@mend.supplements: For decades, people with fibromyalgia have heard the same dismissive lines. "Your tests are normal." "It's probably just stress." "It might be all in your head." New science is finally putting that to rest. Researchers have carried out the largest genetic study of fibromyalgia ever done, analysing DNA from more than 2.5 million adults. Around 55,000 of them live with the condition. A study that size can spot patterns smaller ones never could, and what it found is hard to ignore. They identified variations in 26 different regions of the genome linked to the risk of developing fibromyalgia. And here's the part worth sitting with. Many of those genes help control how the brain and nervous system work. In plain English, fibromyalgia appears to be built into the way the nervous system processes pain, almost as if the body's volume dial for pain signals is turned up and left there. It's not weakness. It's not imagined. It's not a character flaw. It's biology. Why does this matter beyond feeling validated? Because for years there's been no simple blood test or scan for fibromyalgia. That single gap is why so many people are doubted, bounced between specialists, and left waiting years just to be believed, let alone supported. Rooting the condition in biology is a real step toward faster, clearer diagnosis, and toward future treatments aimed at the actual mechanism instead of just masking symptoms. It also hints at something bigger. Fibromyalgia may not be one single thing, but several subtypes that each need a different approach. And researchers are already treating this as the starting point for understanding chronic pain more broadly. If you've ever been dismissed, minimised, or made to feel like you were making it up, this one's for you. The science is finally catching up to what you've known all along.

My pain is dismissed by every doctor I have seen. They know I have fibromyalgia but they keep saying nothing else we can do. I am sick of being in pain and told there is nothing they can do

Thank you at least we are getting somewhere. I have hidden my diagnosis for years because I was ashamed to say it as it is so broadly misunderstood.

I have fibromyalgia , menopause and EDS , finding the right supplements makes a huge difference! I make so many of my own like dandelion root and nettle roots , along with nettle seeds to help with focus and energy. However I’ve always struggled to find a decent magnesium to take each night . It’s so hard to find supplements with no added caking agents ect in . That’s why I’m so excited for yours ☺️

I took part in medical research about Fibro in I think 2016. To check that I was a valid candidate for the trial, aside from having an NHS diagnosis (from a rheumatologist 🙄) the research professionals had to do some kind of check on the nerves in my thighs. They confirmed I was a candidate after that so I’ve often wondered if there is indeed some kind of diagnostic test somewhere somehow

To add to this. I spent several sessions in an MRI scanner whilst they put pressure on my thumbs while scanning my brain to see how my brain reacts to pain. I think it was 4 sessions - 3 with a placebo and 1 with low dose natrexone (I think) - it was so interesting
