SPREAD THE SCIENCE: Atoms are the fundamental building blocks of all matter in the universe, composed of three primary subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons carry a positive electrical charge and neutrons carry no charge, binding tightly together at the center of the atom to form a dense core called the nucleus. Surrounding this nucleus is a cloud of rapidly moving electrons, which carry a negative electrical charge and are attracted to the positive nucleus. In a neutral atom, the number of protons exactly equals the number of electrons, balancing the overall charge. The identity and behavior of an atom are determined by these subatomic particles, which is how the periodic table of elements is organized. Elements are arranged on the periodic table in order of increasing atomic number, which is the exact number of protons found in an element’s nucleus. For example, hydrogen has one proton, while helium has two. While the number of protons defines the element, the number of neutrons can vary, creating different variations of the same element known as isotopes. The mass number of an atom is the total count of both protons and neutrons combined, as electrons have almost no mass. The structure of the periodic table also reveals how atoms will interact with one another to form chemical bonds. It is organized into horizontal rows called periods and vertical columns called groups, which group elements with similar chemical properties together. Elements in the same group have the same number of valence electrons, which are the electrons in the outermost shell of the atom. Because atoms naturally strive to have a full outer shell of electrons to achieve stability, elements in the same column react in highly predictable ways, either sharing, gaining, or losing electrons to bond with other atoms. Science loves you, atom. ⚛️

Why does god need people to follow him? A truly loving god would take people regardless of their flaws and show unconditional love.

Christianity specifically started in the 1st century as a small Jewish movement under brutal Roman rule. It gained massive traction because it promised eternal life and equal worth to the poor, slaves, and women who were treated terribly by Rome. It officially exploded in power when the Roman Emperor Constantine adopted it in the 4th century to unify and control his crumbling empire. Basically, it grew from a coping mechanism for the oppressed into a political tool for the powerful. An all-powerful, all-loving God cannot coexist with the reality of mindless suffering, like bone cancer in children or tsunamis. The thousands of incompatible religions across history show that a person's "truth" is entirely dictated by where and when they were born. Ultimately, it is a "God of the Gaps" fallacy that uses temporary blanks in scientific knowledge to invent an unprovable supernatural creator. It is far more logical that humans created God to cope with existence than the other way around. Human history completely contradicts the idea of a divine plan. Homo sapiens have existed for roughly 300,000 years, yet according to mainstream Abrahamic religions, God waited until the last 2,000 to 4,000 years to finally reveal himself and offer "salvation." This means for over 95% of human history, God watched billions of early humans suffer through brutal ice ages, agonizing diseases, infant mortality, and starvation without uttering a word. To believe in God, you have to believe a loving creator purposefully ignored thousands of generations of his own creation, only to suddenly pop up in a tiny corner of the Middle East during the Bronze and Iron Ages to write a book. It makes no logical sense; it only makes sense if religion is a recent human invention. I understand you were raised with these beliefs and respect their importance to you. It’s incredibly tough to question things that have brought comfort since childhood. With real warmth, I just think we sometimes owe it to ourselves to step back and look at the world objectively. Opening our eyes to reality and history is just a natural part of growing up in our modern world.
