also the neighborhood means “the slave” because we as Muslims sometimes refer to ourselves as the slaves of God, not bc of slavery!! (As a Palestinian myself)

Slaves we’re traded all over the world. Our prophet s.a.w had BILAL r.a. Released from his owner who tortured him. And BILAL was the one to give the Azan like mosques still do today. And when our prophet S.a.w passed away, BILAL was so upset he left only to come back when he saw the prophet in his dream. And we always say “radiallahu anhu (r.a.)” after his name out of respect. It means “may allah be pleased with him”

The word 'al-abeed' in Arabic does not mean black people and is not related to a specific race.
The word means slaves and it comes from the root 'abd, meaning worship or the person who owns it, the master .
When someone says, for example, " abed aswad," it is a racist because it means "black slave."
But the word 'abd' is not inherently racist because we name our children, for example, Abd Al-Rahman or Abd allah.
servant or slave of allah
servant or slave of merciful

I know racism exist in arabs country, but "Al-abeed" doesn't necessarily mean slavery most of the time, it's also can mean worshiper, worshiper and servent to god and there's alot of names that has the word abeed/abed in it. and it's for worshiping not for the person itself to be a slave.

There has always been a coalition between Black Americans and Palestinians under oppression. Malcolm X visited Gaza in the 60s for a reason. Angela Davis wrote extensively about the apartheid in Palestine connected to Jim Crow.

Does she know we are called abeed allah? Slaves to God? Al abeed doesn’t mean black people. Anyone can be a slave. Also, you know black people live in Palestine and are currently being ethnically cleansed by Israel?

There actually is no slavery in Islam. Slavery means owning another human being, and the prophet Muhammad expressly forbid owning people saying we all belong to Allah. What exists in Islam is distinctly different. I'd love to get into the details if anyone is interested.

I am full Palestinian. I have Afro Palestinian ancestry and I didn’t even realize my parents had different skin colors until I came to America and we started experiencing racism from BOTH SIDES (mostly from white ppl tho) in public because people thought my parents were an interracial couple. They are from the same village in Palestine. It caused me so much confusion growing up. I would keep asking my parents were was my dad really from because people keep telling me I’m mixed at school. Palestinians do not have the same sick and twisted relationship with our skin colors that Americans do. Americans need to stop projecting their societal illnesses on other populations.
