Vagabond wine bar opening in Brighton A 'self-pouring' wine bar will open this week. Vagabond Wines officially opens at 3-4 Duke Street in The Lanes, Brighton, on Monday, November 2, after a series of previews. Unlike traditional bars, wine at Vagabond is dispensed by machines at the push of a button. Drinkers can pour their own from more than 100 wines. A press launch was held on Thursday night, ahead of Monday's official opening. The Argus can confirm that the interior is both classy and comfortable. At the heart of the bar is an approach designed to let people try wine without committing to a whole bottle. Customers can choose from more than 100 wines and use self-pour machines to serve themselves. Guests tap a card, choose a wine and select their pour, Vagabond says. The smallest option is a 25ml taster, with half and full glasses available for anyone who finds something they like. Visitors can sample several wines without ordering a full glass of each. Staff are on hand to guide guests through the vast selection. The Brighton selection will include English wines made at Vagabond's Urban Winery in London using grapes from Sussex and the South East. Head winemaker Jose Quintana grew up on a farm in Sussex, giving the wines another connection to the county. Food is part of the offering too, with modern European small plates and dishes to share alongside the drinks. The two-floor venue has room for 79 guests indoors and another 18 outside. It occupies part of the former Browns Brasserie site, which closed in May 2025 after 52 years. The new Brighton branch is Vagabond's first opening outside London in five years. In August, interim managing director Graham Hall said: “It’s been a while since we opened a new bar outside of London, and we couldn’t have picked a more perfect place to do it.” Vagabond is offering a limited number of preview places, with 50 per cent off food until Sunday, November 1. Guests can join the Brighton guest list for access before Monday's official opening.
