I reviewed this chippy 2 years ago but recently I’ve received a lot of messages from people saying how much better it has got over the past few months so me and Jas thought we’d pop there for dinner and see what it’s like! 🐟🍟 This is Thornbury Fish Bar and it’s located at the top of the high street. They’re got two benches outside and luckily as we walked over Jas went and sat on one. I looked at the menu and noticed there’s a few new things in the menu, one of them being Irish sauce. This is great to see as I love Irish curry sauce and it’s cool that they now have English & Irish. I ordered a large cod, jumbo battered sausage, large chips & a pot of Irish curry sauce for me and Jas to share and this came in at £19. What was it like and has it improved since last time? Firstly, impressed to see that they were cooking everyone’s order fresh. Yes, you have to wait a while but I much prefer it this way. Starting with the large chips, great portion and plenty enough for me and Jas to share. A mixture of small, large, soft and crispy chips and me and Jas both said they were brilliant. Then we’ve got the large cod. Once again a good size, pretty much perfect batter that was super crispy and flavoursome. A big piece of meaty cod that tasted lovely, the only thing me and Jas both said was that the actual cod was dry, if that cod has been moist though, my days that piece of fish would of been outstanding. Next up we’ve got the jumbo battered sausage that had a light crisp batter, moist sausage and it tasted pretty good. Finally we’ve got the Irish curry sauce that was super thick, really flavoursome with a nice peppery kick. If you like thick gravy then you’ll love this one. It was a decent Irish curry sauce! Overall this spot has definitely improved! I’m not saying it’s amazing but we were happy with it. A few little tweaks like the cook on the fish and then this place could easily be scoring a lot higher. We will definitely be back again and hopefully it just keeps getting better and better!
