That looks like CPVC. I recommend replaces as much of that as you can with PEX or at the least actual PVC. I own a maintenance company and I have a condo association that was built back in the 80s and all of their plumbing is CPVC. Over time this stuff gets incredibly brittle and fittings fail constantly or leak and sometimes hydro shock or water hammer which is water starting or stopping quickly will cause the entire line to explode. Even just bumping it can sometimes crack it. Highly recommend replacing it.

if its brittle use a sawzall blade or a hack saw and take it slow then get a adapter for a replacement pipe (pex or copper)

We will have to look into that. When I replaced the hot water heater we ran into the brittle issue you are referring to. It is hard to access without ripping more of the ceiling out. This should have been addressed sooner but I’m learning as I go.
