I've dealt with this a few times. I've consulted an attorney that specializes in civil rights. Pro tip: if they begin to talk to you and you don't want to listen they have absolutely zero legal recourse if they're working within the bounds of the law to prevent you from inserting ear plugs. if they remove them simply to make you listen that is a violation of the 4th amendment. it's clearly established law.
