Bladebiker87 :
the money you paid for the item was taxed from your wage, then the item had 20% vat when you bought it, now your being taxed for selling it without profit.

it's always been this way. its only taxable if you're making a profit. if you buying and selling item for more than you paid. it's profit. if that goes over £1k you have to start paying tax on it. if you're selling your old items for less than you paid. that's a loss. no tax due.

Kit :
Get the facts straight. Firstly, this isn't new. Secondly, if you are selling your own second hand items for less than you paid for them then this is not taxable income. It's only if you are trading for profit that it becomes taxable.

with all the offers you get on Vinted, the £1,000 tax is NOT hitting most sellers.

it is Purley the usual limit on earnings for self employment, if it is just your own stuff you are getting rid of it doesn't count but if you are buying goods to then sell on it does

It’s standard to have to pay tax when you earn over £1000 , less if you are high earners

you're not really making a profit if it's taking a loss on capital from the original price

You are paying tax on profit only which means that if you sell a top for £2 that you bought for 20 you are not making any profit...You need to
report it if your earnings go over £1000 but you are not actually paying anything unless it is really profit...
