I've been thinking about Elul this year, and about the women I most want to share this breathwork with. The breathwork itself is rooted in Elul: in turning toward Hashem, in remembering that we are loved and that we are never outside of that love. This year I wanted to offer it through the lens of the cyclebreaker. When you are the daughter of wounded people, and then become a woman and perhaps a mother yourself, teshuva carries a different weight. For those of us who grew in poisoned soil, there are parts of ourselves we learned to leave behind long before we had language for why. The truest definition of teshuva I know is to return to the tzadekes you already are. But maybe there is another layer for us here. What if teshuva is also reclaiming the parts of yourself you had to abandon to survive? You may have had to leave them at some point, but Hashem never did. And maybe that is why I keep hearing:
