it was definitely as bad as people say and i’m a sanji fan. was it out of character? no. but was it extremely overdramatic and extra? yes absolutely. oda could have got the same point across with less of the overdramatic gag effects. the reason it’s actually as bad as people say is because it literally made sanji kind of irrelevant in that arc, now i’m not saying he literally didn’t do anything but he had a smaller role in that arc then almost any arc prior and post fmi and it’s literally because he was out of commission half the arc from nosebleeds, if you don’t agree that’s very overdramatic then idk what to even tell you.

Also fishman island is general I love the arc it has such a great message about racism and the impacts and the struggles people face trying to heal and move on from what they’ve gone through but all anyone can talk about is sanji and how horrible he was in the arc even though the nose bleeds I feel we’re quite a good connection to Luffy losing a lot of blood and everything else that transpired after that (sorry I really like this arc)

I was so scared for Fishman island is thought he might not be my favorite character anymore and then I was like hello? he wasn't a freak at all? the nosebleeds were only for the story you lern about the agreement about blood between humans and fishmans, and the mermaid princess as if oda already doesn't sexualize every 16 yo girls, in Japan they consider that adult, I'm not saying its a good thing but if you don't like sanji because of that you should probably stop watching one piece in general (sorry for my horrible english)

Literally Sanji as a character(in manga i didn't watch most of the anime so idk) isn't even as bad as most "perv gag" characters in anime, so for haters to fixate on this just shows they have no real reason to attack his fans who appreciate him for his well written storyline. The gag is a broad problem with all anime and Japanese culture and I'm glad to see it called out but attacking Sanji fans isnt gonna solve anything since they also agree the gag is annoying?? lmao like we're talking about a complex character and acknowledging the gag as a character flaw, the rest of his story is just that good

I watched op in a go without getting involved with fans online, I found him super funny in that arc I was so shocked when I found out that people didn't like him in that arc and more so that the arc itself is hated, for me it was the first arc after their reunion and every episode of it excited me for how they all have elevated in characters powers and how their dynamic is portrayed

We can appreciate the arc while simultaneously acknowledging that Sanji was annoying as hell that arc. And to non Sanji fans, WILL be the worst because of the fact that he hasnt acted that way in the past. If you compare Fishman Isle Sanji to past arcs, he cannot compare. He is by far the worst Sanji in my opinion. I just cant stand him and how he acts towards women in the first half of the arc.
