Been an atheist for over 15 years and i've actually become more anti-theist/ anti magical thinking over the years. It's provided me the clarity and comfort to know the world works in logical, explainable ways. I understand what you're saying about the community religion provides, but just because it's difficult, doesn't mean we shouldn't try to make society more secular. I guess i'm just not sure what you're actually arguing for here.

I mean, what do people who advocate society does away with all magical thinking and only allow facts & truth to be spread… What do they think storytelling is for? Do they mean to do away with that? How would they find meaning? Do they think these stories and rituals do nothing for us? Heck, the placebo effect would seem to refute that position 😅😂

If i believed in a spiritual purpose for me to be alive right now, this is it. I want so badly to write a book about moving from Religion to something we can all, world wide, agree on. While I prefer no religion, I understand that it isn't possible, but how can we "glide" to something we all agree on? I have so many ideas, none of them on paper. You inspire me though.

it depends, for me as an ex Muslim where a lot of people still lose everything including their life , the amoujt of trauma we have is so much we don't want religion or religious people in our lives completely.. because I think there's is a different with religious person who don't mind you being gay or not believing vs the the type that can kill you for it ..

I just love that i get to be on tiktok at this moment in time....because I get to listen to this incredibly insightful post. I have deconstructed and have sought secular community and I absolutely agree with you. I have found a community of people trying and its interesting and cool. I do think we can build secular communities... it will just take time

I think people from post-colonial Blk/Brwn cultures who are also deconstructing would have more and more of these conversations because deconstruction in those cultures looks different and so do secular communities.

Okay, fair points. Makes sense. I’m personally still in the hard, pure atheistic place because the “bathwater” was so toxic that I’m taking care of myself by rejecting ALL magical thinking. This may change as I relax about it, but I am repulsed by it all right now. And yes, deconstruction for me took many years. It was like puzzle pieces falling, one by one, into place

It's still worth building secular community regardless of how difficult it may be. The effects are cumulative. Atheism is not inherently anti-religion, of course. Pluralism is a great place to land.

I was more stridently atheist when I was newly deconstructed. I’m more tolerant now. It makes life easier, and most people aren’t ready to deconstruct.
