Every summer, my friends and I went to the same water park. It had everything. Slides. Wave pools. A lazy river. But there was one attraction that had been closed for as long as anyone could remember. The Black Plunge. It was the tallest slide in the park. Completely enclosed. Pitch black from top to bottom. A faded sign still hung on the fence. PERMANENTLY CLOSED. Nobody knew why. The lifeguards would always change the subject whenever someone asked. One of them finally said, “It wasn’t the slide…” “…it was what came out.” We laughed. Thought he was trying to scare us. That afternoon, we noticed something strange. The gate around the Black Plunge had been left unlocked. No employees nearby. No cameras that we could see. Just an empty staircase leading to the top. Me. Ryan. Olivia. Jake. And Mason. We looked at each other. Ryan grinned. “One ride.” So we climbed. The higher we got… The quieter the park became. The screams from the other rides faded away. The music disappeared. By the time we reached the top… It was completely silent. There was only one inflatable tube waiting. Like someone had left it there for us. Jake looked over the edge. “I can’t even see where this thing ends.” The tunnel swallowed all the light. Ryan climbed into the tube. “If I’m not back in a minute…” He laughed. “…come after me.” He pushed off. Gone. We waited. Ten seconds. Thirty. A minute. Nothing. No splash. No yelling. No Ryan. Olivia called his phone. It rang. Somewhere below us. Inside the slide. Muffled. Then it stopped. Jake swallowed hard. “We should leave.” Just then… A loud splash echoed from the pool below. We rushed to the railing. Ryan climbed out. Completely soaked. He was smiling. But something felt… Wrong. He didn’t wave. Didn’t say anything. He just stared up at us. Then slowly walked away. We hurried down the stairs. By the time we reached the bottom… He was gone. His towel. His shoes. His backpack. Still sitting exactly where he’d left them. His phone was still inside. Then… The loudspeaker crackled. “Attention guests.” “The Black Plunge is now open.” Every employee in the park froze. One lifeguard dropped his rescue tube. Another started blowing his whistle over and over. People began running. Nobody explained why. Then we heard it. Water rushing. Not inside the slide. Outside. The opening of the Black Plunge began pouring out water. Gallons of it. Then dozens of inflatable tubes. Then shoes. Hundreds of shoes. Children’s shoes. Adult shoes. Sandals. Flip-flops. None of them had feet in them. The water finally stopped. An elderly maintenance worker walked over. He looked into the slide. Then quietly said, “Not enough.” We stared at him. “What do you mean?” He looked at us. “Every time it opens…” “…it gives one back.” “…and keeps the rest.” My phone buzzed. A text from Ryan. “Don’t leave without me.” I looked up. Ryan was standing at the top of the Black Plunge again. Completely dry. Smiling. Waiting for us to come back up. #fyp #viral #scarystories #scarytiktoks #foryoupage
