You guys are just obsessed with race. His father didn’t make the cut because of his lack of courage, not some excuse he was traumatized from racism. They would’ve been black people braver than him… it’s a comic. And the ring doesn’t see race. Yall want the guardians to DEI hire regardless of qualifications lmao. John actually had more courage.

The writing is very good, but everyone is taking the whole situation outta context. The whole thing was based on the mothers perspective growing up in a different time where racism was heavier, making her bitter towards others. Leading to John being groomed and progressing the story. The ring chooses its user based on those who have great willpower to overcome fear where John Sr failed. The ring does not take the color of your skin into consideration because it is an intergalactic police force recruiting aliens from many worlds. That concept is something as a cultural issue for our species. In this origin story it works to drive the story forward, but it does not have to be everything. Everyone in the show is flawed which makes it easier to relate to. I belive people should aspire to be more than their skin, gender, or sexual orientation. Those characteristics are part of who you are but not everything you are.

Is it exhausting being exhausting? He didn’t get picked by the ring, not a guardian or anyone else, and the ring had no concept of race. Humans generally, regardless of race, were scared by the ring breaking into their home and lifting them out of your bed. Hal got picked because he watched his dad die and he grew up completely numb to death and fear as a result.

Do black people realize most real “heroes” in the United States are black? I don’t even get how modern generations want a race to be perceived as inherently flawed. If you truly want someone to fail in life give them a reason or excuse. Mean well liberals are destroying the strength of this country
