It is said that they (native Americans) were able to use shamanism to identify plants with medicinal properties and then mix these up in specific orders to get a specific result out of them. Im not sure if this is true, but you’d be surprised at just how similar this is to our ‘modern’ way of ascertaining and procuring medicinal compounds - very few are truly synthetic, instead being derivatives of plant extracts. So long story short, ‘witchcraft’ and ‘potions’ are merely modern day pharmaceutical compounds, except extracted, isolated, and then compounded. Based off of this, I would say that some compounds found within fruit, veg, and roots (ginger for example) have natural medicinal properties - indeed many of which simply have not even been characterised by modern science.
