@memoria.paganorum: What's your opinion ? Paganism is not one religion. It is an umbrella term covering very different traditions, practices and ways of understanding the divine. Some Pagan paths are strongly polytheistic, such as Heathenry or Hellenism, where relationships with gods can be central. Others can place much more emphasis on nature, ancestors, spirits of place or animism. Modern Druidry is a good example of that diversity: Druids may describe themselves as polytheists, pantheists, animists, monotheists, or may avoid defining deity altogether. Some Druid communities explicitly include people with no belief in personal gods. There are also explicitly non-theistic Pagan paths, including Naturalistic Paganism and Atheopaganism. In these approaches, gods may be understood as symbols, archetypes or cultural figures rather than literal supernatural beings, while ritual, mythology, seasonal celebrations and reverence for nature can remain important. So asking whether “Pagans believe in gods” has no single answer. Paganism is a broad family of traditions, not one belief system. Even the Pagan Federation describes modern Paganism as containing many different traditions under the same umbrella. #paganism #neopaganism #animism #druidry #pagancommunity

Yes. I'm pagan first. I call myself a Norse Pagan simply because I use the Norse mythology to provide a structure.

Yes, I am Celtic pagan with Norse influence. I work with three gods specifically, but not in the sense that I see them as people with whom I have a real conversation, but rather to utilize their energies.

Maybe all of them exist in their own pantheons, but ultimately I live by my own beliefs. Mother Nature is our mother, the oceans are her daughters. I always speak to the sea when I visit her. I thank her for her gifts and I clean up any trash I find as I visit with her. Everything has a soul, and once upon a time our souls were forged by space debris. We don’t reincarnate like most people talk about, but the energy that leaves our bodies upon death moves on to other life forms and part of ourselves become part of that life, too. Sometimes memories of other lives come back to us through dreams or Déjà vu. When a bond is strong enough we find other souls we have known throughout our various existences. It’s a comfort, but if there is nothing beyond this life I’m okay with that too.

The ultimate gods are, Mother Earth, the giver and provider of life! The father sky, provider of weather, light and dark! Neither can exist with each other! And we humans will always be at mercy of them!

Yes? Well I mean, it depends. I worship the living earth... she is my Goddess. I worship the concept of Ecosystem and Creativity, and the cycles of Death and Birth. I dont much personify any of these things (though have in the past and am not opposed to doing so if I feel so called).

I believe the gods exist but, to me, they are the personification of the myriad facets of the human experience. We all experience life, death, food growing/hunting/gatherings, war, peace, love, ect and so we put a face to the concept and call it a god. I will sometimes call the energy I'm working with a god to focus my thoughts but no, beyond enjoying myths and legends as a way of understanding the human experience, I don't believe in the gods in the way I think a lot of polytheists do. For me, allowing these energies to be nameless yet universal, is what breathes life into my own experience.

Being that Christianity started calling people who believed in other religions pagan, it is a broad term nowadays that describes anybody who believes in any other religion, other than the prominent three, so no you cannot be a pagan and not believe in any God, not be believing in Gods is the absence of religion

Yes, "pagan" by definition, is: one who does not believe in the Christian god. Latin pāgus → pāgānus (“rural/country person; civilian”) → Late Latin pāgānus (“non-Christian”) → Old French paien → Middle English pagan → modern pagan. The "country person" portion of this etymology came about when Rome was converting to Christianity; this was taking place more quickly in the city centres, and those who lived in the countryside were slower to convert, and was used to slander them as "simple folk." We come by the term "heathen" in much the same way, as it was a reference to those who lived out among the heath plant (in the countryside).

Pagan is defined by not believing in the 3 major Abrahamic religions, which is Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. So if you believe anything else, you would have been considered pagan.

Paganism doesn’t require you to believe before you know who or what you’re praying to or asking for help.
