@dimestoreradio: A film screening and benefit concert featuring renowned singers interpreting music documented by Alan Lomax comes to St. Ann’s Church in Brooklyn Heights on November 5th as the kick-off event of the Brooklyn Folk Festival, presented by our partner Jalopy Theatre @jalopybrooklyn . Hosted by Dom Flemons, the concert will feature Peter Stampfel (Fugs, Holy Modal Rounders), Kyp Malone (TV on the Radio), Catherine Russell (Steely Dan, David Bowie), Luther Dickinson (The Black Crowes, North Mississippi Allstars), Laura Cantrell (WFMU), Grace Bergere, and Stephanie Jenkins will perform their own unique takes on songs from the digital archive of the Association for Cultural Equity. These concert follows the New York premiere of Lomax’s rarely seen 1961 film “Ballads, Blues, and Bluegrass” featuring Doc Watson, Roscoe Holcomb, Willie Dixon, Memphis Slim, Jean Ritchie, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Peter LaFarge, Ernie Mars and The Greenbriar Boys.
