@adnanmd: Today is our first wedding anniversary. A year ago we held each other while surrounded by the people we love, celebrating the beginning of our forever. Today, I watch helplessly as a continuous pump delivers chemo into her PICC line. It’s hard to comprehend how much life can change in a year. How the things you worried about then can now feel so small. This isn’t how we imagined our first year of marriage. There have been days filled with fear, exhaustion, uncertainty, and more tears than I can count. But there has also been a kind of love I don’t think I understood a year ago. The kind of love that I wish we never had to learn this way. The kind that means staring at the flashing monitor beside her hospital bed night after night. The kind that means learning, almost overnight, how to be an advocate and a caregiver, even when it feels like the rest of life has been put on an indefinite pause. The kind that means watching the person you love endure something you would give anything to take from them, knowing you can’t. The kind that means learning more than you ever wanted to know about cancer. Life looks a lot different than we thought it would, one year later. But through every high and every low, I’m still just as grateful that I get to do life with her. Here’s to getting through this chapter together, and to all the happier ones still waiting for us.
