Lane needs discipline, structure, attention, consistency, and routine. Those things are not optional—they are essential for his growth and success. From what I see, Shane, Kathy, Josh, and Dori are doing a phenomenal job working with him every single day. People need to understand that they cannot be expected to walk on eggshells just to avoid upsetting him. Most days are great, and that is a testament to the hard work and dedication being put into helping him succeed. Like any child, there are days when there are a few hiccups, but that’s part of life and part of learning. And as for those criticizing every little thing they do, maybe it’s time to focus on your own lives. If Lane works hard, meets expectations, and earns himself a reward, that’s between him and the people caring for him. The constant judgment from outsiders isn’t helping anyone. For those who have never raised a child with special needs, I would encourage you to show a little grace before offering criticism. I have 24 years of experience raising my son, who is autistic and has an intellectual disability, and I can tell you firsthand that the journey is not always smooth. Even after all these years, there are still challenging moments. Progress takes patience, consistency, and a tremendous amount of love. I believe they are doing an outstanding job with Lane. He is growing into a fine young man, and that doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because people are investing their time, energy, and hearts into helping him learn responsibility, respect, and self-control. And for those upset because Shane didn’t immediately hug Lane after he apologized, consider the situation. Shane recognized that Lane was still very emotional and animated in that moment. Sometimes the best response is to allow a child time to calm down and process their emotions. That isn’t cruelty—it’s good judgment. Discipline. Respect. Structure. Consistency. Those are not punishments. They are the foundations that help young people thrive, and Lane is benefiting from them every day.

I know exactly why you didn't give him a hug like I said I have a daughter with downstrom and I know what you're talking about there's certain ways you have to discipline and raise your child when they have a special needs so yeah no one knows anything they don't have master's degree in anything the teachers that was my daughter's school they had no clue what they were doing I had to tell them what to do because I know how to take care of my daughter with downstrom I've done it 29 years just like you've done it 27 years and you're doing a great job I understand why you did not hug you that would have made him horrible at the time and I know that but you love him with all your heart and soul and I know that so you don't need to listen to anyone cuz they have no clue how to take care of a child with special needs even if they have one if they're talking crap to you they have no clue for are they going to have a big surprise
