My grandma's house was on Ridgeway a street over a couple houses down from Medgar Evers house, I have never been there 😏

My high school Lit teacher (a white woman) at Murrah High School took us on a field trip to the Medgar Evers home around 2013… I understand how white tour guides could sit wrong with some people..growing up seeing my high school Lit teacher as a white lady honor that history, having us reading and analyzing black literature, and having her teaching at a VERY black school and even enrolling her own kids there helped me understand that there are some good faith white people, even in Mississippi. HOWEVER, we as black people are the ones dealing with the trauma that white people put us through so I wish they would give us more grace when we voice that a black tour guide would feel much better for us.

My grandma stayed down the street from this house .. used to walk by it everyday but I’ve never been .. gotta make the trip fasho !!!

My grandmother was a freedom fighter and Medgar would be at her house along with others having meetings and camping out. Of course that was before I was born

As a Maywood, IL resident I can appreciate the homes of our fallen Black leaders and the history. I live just blocks away from Fred Hampton's home. Medgar was great in Mississippi and me being a JSU grad is a plus. Our fallen leaders memories need to be preserved for future generations.
