Springfield is my hometown. I’m glad someone else is calling out this tragedy for what it is. Deeply rooted in racism. 😢😢😢

Thank you. As a Springfield resident I’m and have been appalled how our Haitian community has been being treated. You speak facts!

How do we know that was the reason he took his life? He walked into traffic, do we know if it wasn't just a tragic accident?

Education begins at home, but it doesn’t end there. I’m not saying teachers are responsible for someone’s final decision, but they are part of the safety net. When bullying is happening at school, adults have a responsibility to notice it, take it seriously, and intervene. I grew up in Mexico believing that teachers were not just there to teach, but to care. They were authority figures, but they also acted like an extension of the family. They would fix a child’s torn clothes, help them if they came to school unkempt, and sometimes even buy food for a child who had nothing. Not because it was their job, but because they saw their students as human beings first. No education system is perfect, and parents have the greatest responsibility for raising their children. But schools also help shape the people our children become. Education is more than math, reading, and tests. It’s teaching empathy, respect, humanity, and the courage to stand up when someone is being mistreated. And yes, immigrants are part of America too. They work, study, raise families, build communities, and contribute every day. Those are American values too.

He wasn’t gonna be a slave to the machine. So very sad! My love to him and his family. Yes, we NEED our diversity. It makes us better as a society.
