One thing that irritates me is that ao3 is not the government, they’re not a legal body. They wouldn’t be censoring anyone by not condoning nsfw rpf of children. They can easily make regulations but they don’t want to acknowledge that they’ve made a safe space for pedos.

I feel like we need to remind people that ao3 was founded so that the creator had somewhere to share their fics depicting incest in a romantisized way. So it's really no wonder that the moderators don't actively remove the works depicting csam because they most likely support it themselves to some capacity or partake in equally deplorable fantasies

As someone who's a librarian and has seen the book bans in real time, it's SO SO SO different from AO3 situation. The 'slippery slope' thing yes it exists but it is SO contextual. It's mainly when discussion and mentions of topics get erased and WHY things get erased, rather than literal csam. These fics aren't written as a sociological critique. I need people to THINK and actually see an archive other than AO3. If a library can have both 50 shades of grey and other smutty romance fiction, even coming-of-age teen appropriate young adult raunchy books without also having to csam so can AO3. No one will want to publish it, and even if you self publish we will reject the offer to have it in our library. The only thing that comes close is non-fiction books talking about real events objectively. In regards to people bringing up FFnet and Wattpad, they only died because of copyright laws and pandering to advertisers. None of them ever died because they got rid of csam. All AO3 needs to do is put a ban on RPF children at the MINIMUM. (notice how I say minimum) Will there be an issue where people post that content regardless just without tagging it, yes. However, if they properly monitor the fics that get reported it won't be as big of an issue as people think.

fictional content of minors quite literally is illegal in the United States, HOWEVER cops usually don't pursue charges as no real child is hurt in their eyes. people have been arrested for this material even though it's fiction. I fully believe this needs handled much more severely and persecuted.
