lupita ♡ :
i was only 16 in 2022, and now i’m 20. four years might not sound like a long time, but when i think about the person i was back then, it honestly feels like another lifetime. 2022 was one of the darkest times of my life. i was getting bullied, getting into fights at school, dealing with things that i didn’t know how to talk about, and carrying so much anger and sadness at such a young age. there were moments when i genuinely thought about ending my life because i felt like everything happening around me was never going to get better. i couldn’t see past what i was going through at that moment.
now that i’m 20, i think about that 16-year-old version of myself differently. she had no idea how much life was still waiting for her. there were still so many people she hadn’t met, places she hadn’t gone, memories she hadn’t made, things she hadn’t learned, and versions of herself she hadn’t gotten the chance to become yet. i’m not saying that everything magically became perfect, because life still gets difficult and i’m still learning and growing. but i’m here. i made it past days that i once thought i wouldn’t survive.
since it’s suicide prevention month, i especially want to say this for anyone who might be in the kind of place i was in at 16: please don’t let one painful chapter convince you that you already know how your entire story ends. sometimes when you’re hurting, it becomes almost impossible to imagine a life outside of that pain. i understand that feeling more than i wish i did. but there can be so much life on the other side of a period you thought would destroy you. four years later, i can look back and realize that staying gave me the opportunity to meet versions of myself that 16-year-old me never knew existed. and for that, i’m grateful i’m still here.🤍
