Hairstylist here and we don’t touch store bought hair color, we don’t know what is in it therefore as a hairstylist it’s in bad taste to say if it’s good or not. We formulate our own colors for a reason we know what’s on the hair and test things like elasticity and porosity to see what the hair can withstand

Ooooof! Also a hairstylist and in my experience anything from the drugstore that has said semi permanent is not actually semi permanent. I would go with not safe.

As a hairdresser, generally our opinion is that drug store and professional don't play well together and are chemically very different. No chemical service is harmless, and no ammonia does not mean no developer. If it lasts 32 shampoos then there is some low level developer that allows the cuticle to swell enough to let the colour enter the hair shaft otherwise it would only last 6 shampoos. If you ever get your hairdresser to perform a colour service after, be sure to disclose what you've put on your hair even if you think it's not in your hair anymore. They should do a test strand to make sure their service won't do anything unpredictable with what may or may not still be present. I'm not saying don't do it, just keep these things in mind. It's not a conditioning shine treatment, but it's marketed to sound really benign.

Sorry to jump on your post but, I grew out my gray hair and have a money piece of gray, towards the front. I haven’t coloured my hair in about 3 years. I’m tempted to colour it again but, don’t know what to do. Is grey in style?

You’ll be fine. Just make sure you let your stylist know anytime you go in for a colour service. Even after the 32 shampoos, because the pigments used in the colour can hang out for a while and could affect the results.

Hairstylist here 🤚 it’s fine. In my experience (and yes I’ve tested this) it last quite a long time. Longer than a color depositing mask. But it won’t ruin your hair.

What’s the goal? More shine in your hair? Just make sure it’s not darker than your natural so you don’t get a line when your hair grows out incase it’s a little more permanent than it says. Also update us if you do it!

I got a client to look for a demi permanent color once since she was half way across the country, it lifted her natural hair. so try it and see what happens

I use it and I have tons of grey. But I’m just looking for demi permanent coverage. It doesn’t give me the skunk stripe when it grows out/fades.
