Also why is there a halter and a performance halter. It should just be performance halter. Wtf is the point of halter if they can’t preform???

Why can’t they go straight on the rail anymore at the canter? I see video after video after video now and they’re all crooked

maybe a hot take, but i would add people actually giving their show horses turnout, shows actually taking ear and tail blocking seriously, generally more concern for welfare. the things i saw when i still showed aqha were brutal

Hot take: that "ideal" Western lope is bad for them. My qh gelding could do it, but it literally made his back hurt. LURCHING IS NOT NATURAL

Do people really still not measure their horses for saddle fit? 😭 that was literally the first thing I did when I got my new horse

red head redemption :
ok i’m not sure if this is a thing in the all around world bc I haven’t shown aqha in over 15 yrs, BUT I veryyyyyy strongly believe we need an amended system for nonpros in the reining. bc how are you gonna tell me that there are people who’ve trained and sold $1mil+ worth of horses by themselves.. but are able to compete in the nonpro? it’s largely only possible if they’re financially secure enough to do this without needing their own training program or teaching lessons to bring in income. and it’s truly no shade to any of these people - if I could do that too then you bet I would! but the system itself needs some reshaping imo. just feels silly that someone who maybe teaches lessons here and there to earn a little extra cash is in violation of their nonpro standing when training and selling your own horses does not disqualify you as a nonpro. I could very well be missing something but that’s my understanding at least!

This is part of the reason I prefer speed events. I’m still working on getting into reining and ranch because I just love it, but I do love that in speed events it’s either you were the fastest or you weren’t. There’s no judging, just a laser that gets the start and stop time.

I’ve asked TONs of judges and I’ve scribed for a lot… you know how many ever even commented on the outfit…. 1 and it was oh I like that top. Never even once made any other comments on outfit. As long as it fits the rules and fits well they literally do not care!

I would move yearling classes to 2 years olds (longe line/in hand) and 2 year old classes to 3 year olds (1st year riding). Too many horses are pushed too young, and there is no longevity for them. I would love to see stats on how many horses that show at 2 are still showing when they are 6+.

We need more and better western saddle fitters, and brands need to be far more transparent about sizing, type of tree, etc. I also think we’re seeing such a huge surge in the ranch because far more horses are suited for it movement wise and the clothing/tack is much more accessible/practical
