The 21st edition of Kwita Izina takes place this Friday, September 4, 2026, in Kinigi, Musanze District, right at the foothills of Volcanoes National Park. It is indeed going to be a fantastic celebration of nature and wildlife conservation ESSENTIAL EVENTS HIGHLIGHTS The Newborns: The 22 baby gorillas were all born over the last 12 months. Naming them brings the cumulative historical total to 460 individually named gorillas since the event was formalized in 2005. The Tradition: The ceremony is inspired by centuries-old Rwandan traditions where families name newborn children surrounded by friends and community. Celebrity Guests: Renowned international and local figures will serve as "namers".
