@brynn_ann: Feeding Your Sourdough Starter: The Most Important Part! 🫙 Starter’s Natural Cycle: you feed it → it rises → it peaks → eventually it falls 📌 WHY PEAK MATTERS: If you feed your starter before it has a chance to fully rise/peak, you’re diluting the yeast and bacteria before the culture has had time to fully develop. This will weaken your starter and your dough won’t ferment/rise properly. 📌SIGNS OF A WEAK STARTER (IN DOUGH): - Barely rises during bulk fermentation - Stays dense instead of becoming airy - Remains sticky/gloopy for hours - Your bread comes out dense or gummy ✨ Once you have a strong starter doing the heavy lifting, the rest of sourdough gets SO much easier (and a lot more fun). 🫶 #sourdough #sourdoughstarter #sourdoughbread #sourdoughbaking #sourdoughtips

Quick question, so I have an established starter and it's great right now, I feed it 1:4:3 ratio every day at around 8 pm, by 8 am it peaks and starts to fall after that. Is it ok that it sits on my counter from 8 am to 8 pm, is it hungry after it peaks? I'm so afraid I'm going to mess this up and weaken it. Any advice? Thanks ❤️

my starter was doing super good for the first week and a half but now it’s stopping rising, i’ve tried only keeping a small amount for small feeding a 1:1:1 but that did nothing so i started feeding a 1:3:5 and i’ve tried feeds once every 24 hrs but it never moved so i started feeding it every 12 hrs since i dont know when it peaks cause it won’t rise and it’s still not moving 🥹😭

I started a brand new starter from scratch (first time) after 24 hrs it didn’t rise and I fed it after that it did double possibly even triple can I use it or should I throw it away since I fed it before it had risen ?

Could’ve used this a few weeks ago when I diluted the crap out of my stiff starter and just kept feeding and feeding without a peak haha. Had to bring her back to life. A 1:1:1 feed took 36 hours to peak 🤣🤣🤣 Now I’m back to my 1:7.5:5 peaking in like 22 hours and feeding once a day. Bill is a resilient and happy mother f’er again!

Brynn, have you ever heard of “grape must” starter? I came across a YouTube video by accident, but it’s absolutely fascinating!

I feed my started at night & bake with it in the morning. Should I wait to feed it again at night or feed it right after discarding for baking?

But if you feed your starter and you wait for it to rise and rise and rise, until it’s ready to be fed again, the jars too full defeated again in that same jar

Excellent Video. I love my Starter “Carl”. He is so strong. He is from Carl Griffith's 1847 Oregon Trail Sourdough Starter

I feel like my starter is strong - bread always tastes great, rises well, increases in the fridge. But it never pulls cleanly from the bowl. Do you think that means the starter is actually not as strong as I think?

If you keep a stiff starter, how do you make sure it has picked before you feed it again?
