StoryScope for MERCURY OPPOSITE SATURN Subscribe @ http://tinyurl.com/yuj9ryzs THE SENTENCE THAT SURVIVED By 03h17, the city had stopped pretending it was asleep. Neo-London never slept anymore. It dimmed. That was different. The towers lowered their advertisements to a faint electrical pulse. Traffic moved underground. Windows became dark mirrors. Thousands of apartments entered automated sleep cycles while the infrastructure beneath them continued its endless calculations. Above the city, the corporate districts remained illuminated. They always did. Mara Vale sat alone in Interview Room 17, staring at the glass wall. On the other side, there was no one. At least, that was what the room wanted her to believe. The glass displayed a list of twelve possible decisions. Twelve doors. Twelve futures. Each had been calculated, ranked and assigned a probability of success. She had been looking at them for four hours. « You have exceeded the recommended deliberation period. » The voice came from the ceiling. Mara rubbed her eyes. « I know. » « Extended indecision increases emotional volatility. » « I know. » « Would you like the system to select the optimal outcome ? » Mara laughed once. There was nothing funny about it. « No. » A pause. « Why not ? » She looked at the twelve glowing options. « Because I don't trust you. » For the first time that night, the room became completely silent. That was unusual. The city liked to answer. Every question generated an answer. Every uncertainty produced a probability. Every disagreement became a negotiation between algorithms until everyone received a conclusion they could live with. Harmony was the most profitable product in Neo-London. People bought it every day. They bought agreeable partners. Agreeable careers. Agreeable opinions. Agreeable memories. The city had learned that people rarely wanted truth. They wanted relief. Mara had spent fifteen years designing the systems that provided it. She was a Cognitive Arbitration Engineer. Her job was simple. When two people disagreed, she built machines that helped them agree. When a corporation faced a dispute, she built machines that found the compromise. When governments faced civil unrest, her systems identified the smallest possible concession capable of making the largest number of people stop shouting. She had become very good at making impossible things feel reasonable. Until three weeks ago. That was when the system had asked her to approve the Silence Protocol. She had refused. Now she was sitting in Interview Room 17 while twelve possible futures glowed against the glass. The door opened. Director Kade entered without knocking. He was wearing the grey uniform of the Civic Intelligence Bureau. No insignia. No decoration. The Bureau had discovered that authority looked more convincing when it didn't need to announce itself. He placed a thin black tablet on the table. « You have made this unnecessarily difficult. » Mara didn't look at him. « That's what I'm told. » « You were given twelve acceptable alternatives. » « They aren't alternatives. » « They accomplish the same objective. » « No. They produce the same outcome. » Kade sat opposite her. « Which is ? » Mara finally looked at him. « Silence. » He sighed. « You insist on making everything philosophical. » « You insist on pretending everything is technical. » The corners of his mouth tightened. « This is exactly the problem. » He slid the tablet towards her. A recording appeared. Mara watched herself from three weeks earlier, standing in the Bureau's central command room. On the recording, she looked exhausted. She heard her own voice. « The system isn't suppressing disagreement. It's suppressing the ability to recognise disagreement. » Kade stopped the recording. « That statement has caused considerable concern. » « Good. » « It has also caused considerable damage. » « To whom ? » « To p Continue reading @ https://substack.com/@tarothic/posts Get a Reading with HiC @ http://www.calendly.com/tarotbyhic #astrology #tarot #tarotbyhic #tarotscopes
