This is incorrect. While there are data centers that CAN run off recycled water...A LOT of them DO NOT. We have not mastered the underwater system because tech giants are more focused on the race to create the biggest terminator over the repercussions the people will pay. We are heading to a Mad Max situation. The New Mexico data center was only 4 months into its build and millions of gallons of water were drained from our EMERGENCY underground water. That is why it was stopped. That data center isn't projected to be completed until 2028....it's already draining our water by the hundreds of thousands of gallons. Us NM residents are on water restrictions due to years of drought. You are wrong. This will have serious repercussions to our agriculture and our people. I voted for Trump but this is where I draw the line. Water is our life source and NOTHING should be more important. We do not need A.I. The government wants us stupid and helpless. Our future is dire.

I think a lot of concern comes from all the flock cameras going up at the same time, all that data has to be compiled. The people want autonomy, not a Chinese style police state or social credit system.

A lot of people don’t understand to that not all data centers are the same. When it comes to dedicated AI data centers, we have roughly 80 of them. China has over 300. And due to Trump’s executive order these data centers get to produce their own power, the excess power gets back into the grid lowering the cost for everyday Americans. AI is made by the United States of America. We created it. We are the country of innovation. We created it. It’s a western American technology. The Chinese communist seen that and they realized the potential and now they are trying to beat the United States and Trump is 100% right the anti-data center narrative was driven by the Chinese communists and Democrats took it and ran with it because anything that’s antithetical to Trump they do.

New systems are way better then the currently runing system. Most new full data centers… use less than a local mall.

That’s propaganda bullshit. The reality is there may never be enough data centers because the AI industry is built around endless expansion. The more powerful AI becomes, the more computing power, electricity, water, and land it consumes. If the ultimate goal is increasingly autonomous, human level AI, where exactly does that expansion stop? We’re being asked to sacrifice jobs, resources, and infrastructure to feed a technology race most people never asked for. At some point, enough is enough. We don’t need limitless AI growth at society’s expense.

There are so families impacted by the noise pollution, light pollution at night and even the water quality for this immediately near them. You cannot ignore the huge negatives. Especially what we are only now seeing in regard to how it is effecting wild life and livestock. The constant hum is most definitely having negative impacts.

I guess it would be an easier pill to swallow if these data centers actually helped the average guy. All I see is government surveillance, job losses and profit for corporations. I understand that it can be used for research and whatnot. Not worth it for me. We have managed just fine without them and don't see why we need them now. Everyone doesn't need their refrigerator and washing machine online and buy a couple of physical hard drives for your data, which is safer anyway.

You make sense. My question is; why do we need so many data center to continue using what we already have?

So doing some research about the data centers, an average medium size data center uses about 100-110 million gallons of water annually, the one you mention from Quincy Washington, consumes between 210-250 million gallons of drinking quality water annually, and 5 million gallons of domestic sewer water per day. Because this mentioned data center from Washington built the $31 million dollars Water Reuse Utility (QWRU) But it gets its water from LOCAL MUNICIPAL GROUNDWATER WELLS AND CITY SEWAGE LINES. Now with that being said let's go with the energy sources if you are right about the energy bills, and they can either use
Fossils fuel= Air pollution, Thermal Pollution.
Small Modular Reactors= Water Consumption, Thermal Pollution and strict ecological footprint
Solar Fields & Battery Storage= Habitat fragmentation, soil degradation and runoff and chemical contamination risks.
And the hidden ecosystem killer:water consumption, because regardless of the power source data centers themselves generate an immense amount of heat.In dry or droughts-prone areas this massive consumption DEPLETES LOCAL AQUIFER AND LOWER WATER TABLES. So this leaves nearby wetlands streams, flora and completely parched, collapsing the foundational layers of the local food web.
