Exactly!! the only Chinese BL drama I can say that has great communication it’s “A Winter sun…” it didn’t take all 16 eps for them to know they loved each other!

Chinese dramas are VERY formulaic. I started my BL journey watching Cdramas first. I watched the untamed then a few other Cdramas. one day I looked around the corner from China to Thailand and was like "there are boys kissing over THERE!" and quickly migrated. I can barely watch a cdrama now because they tell the same story. hero wins in the end if he follows society and his family. He loses in the end if he doesn't follow society and his family.

i think people only see how pretty they ships are lol which is valid but sometimes i cant even finish a series because either i get bored af or the acting is soooo stiff & i cant watch them anymore - i do think alot of the Chinese bl pairs outside acting have been amazing with their fan service tho i feel like ive seen more chemistry between them outside the series than the in the series lol

For me the consent aspect is always in the grey area and I hate it. Also yeah it’s very very copy and paste so no I think Thai bls have the depth and variety that cbls don’t have yet

thing is the issue with chinese BLs are all true but objectivly speaking C BLs do top the writing and acting of ur average Thai BL. (not talking about the thai greats) plot esp is often the weak point of thai BL.

Well, I read a lot of Danmei and many are repetitive since the authors usually publish the novels chapter by chapter like most AO3 stories. So they can go weird fast depending on readers’ wishes. So, no surprise that actual live action would follow this style. A lot probably are also based on popular Danmei. The most beef with the Chinese BL (except Taiwan) I have, is the acting. Some of them are very good but most of them are just pretty boys always showing exactly one expression. Their advertising is insanely pretty and addictive but very few can keep their promises. I know, that is how K-BL and Thai-BL also started and when we give them a few years they will be mature, but at the moment I prefer to stay outside and occasionally take a peek and stay out of their toxic fandoms.

you are accurate 😂. I think a lot is going on with China.. BL is more popular and not so much taboo, so they are trying to get fanbases quickly. All these actors now are living to together and showing a lot of "off-camera" stuff over the actual BL.. I see people talking about that more than the plot or anything in the show.. you can see it's like their Mafia Era/ Police Era for most of the shows put out.

I primarily watch BL to see queer joy. To see an idealized society where individuals can love who they love freely and a lot of Thai series have reached that point. The point where the story is an interesting mystery/comedy/gangster/horror ... whatever and the plot is not primarily a struggle with both internal and external acceptance of being gay. Too many Chinese series have one or both leads starting out and often insisting throughout the series that they are straight and half the plotbis them reluctantly accepting their doomed gay fate. Chinese BLs are emotional t0rture 🌽 and to me it gives punishing the gays because they deserve to suffer.

Well, it’s racism 🤷🏼 never forget how that very famous Japanese bl was about a 30yo and a high schooler and imagine a Thai bl with that plot…..the further the country is from the equador line the more people like what comes out of there
