School Shooter’s Father Asks For The Court’s Manager BARROW COUNTY, Ga. — Colin Gray, the convicted father of Apalachee High shooter Colt Gray, has filed a motion for a new trial. The filing, submitted in Barrow County on Wednesday, argues the guilty verdict against him is "contrary to evidence and without evidence to support it," is "decidedly and strongly against the weight of the evidence," and is "contrary to law and the principles of justice and equity." Gray was convicted on charges including second degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and child cruelty in the case. His attorneys said last week, before he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, that they planned to appeal the conviction. They have highlighted in particular their objection to second degree murder; Colin Gray's was just the second conviction in the U.S. of a parent of a school shooter, and the first with the charge of second degree murder attached. Attorneys for Gray, at his sentencing hearing last week, were largely successful in arguing for a shorter prison term, asserting that a long sentence for the 55-year-old would be a "death in prison sentence."
