Six years teaching. Three years running my own studio ✨ Here’s what I wish someone told me when I started: 1. Schedule your own practice like a non-negotiable You got into this because you fell in love with Pilates. You probably imagined you’d be moving your body all day, every day, then you start teaching and realise you’re cueing everyone else’s movement, not your own. Put it in the calendar and protect it fiercely. 2. Protect your energy We pour everything into our clients. But you cannot keep giving from an empty place. Holding something back for yourself isn’t selfish - it’s what makes you sustainable long-term. 3. Set your schedule boundaries early Most new instructors say yes to every early morning, every late evening, every last-minute request, because it feels like you have to. But the hours you accept in year one become the expectations set for year three. Decide your non-negotiables now, before you’re too deep in to change them. 4. Find community outside of the studio You’re surrounded by people all day and somehow still end up feeling lonely. Having people and spaces in your life outside of Pilates gives you somewhere to land that isn’t tied to how your week went at work. 5. Separate your worth from your class numbers A quiet week is not a sign you’re failing. Numbers fluctuate, seasons change. Your value is not measured by how full your reformers are. The instructors I’ve seen burn out weren’t the ones who cared too little - they were the ones who forgot to save some of that care for themselves. 🤍 Save this if you needed it today. #pilatesinstructor #pilatesteacher #newpilatesinstructor #pilatesbusiness #pilates
