No one here understands buybacks, it has nothing to do with manipulating share price. It’s to pass free value to shareholders. If you own 10% of a company worth $1B and it does a $200M buyback in theory the new company value is $800M, but your ownership increased to 12.5%. So you still have an investment worth $100M but you own 25% more of the company over your original position, and it cost you nothing. If a company can artificially (temporary, no change to fundamentals) reduce share price before a buyback is completed then yes that would be more free value to shareholders
